Several different kinds of noises have recently been reported in the literature since squeaking of artificial hip joints has suddenly received intense attention due to the problems occurring in the US and Australia. The noises are referred to as popping, snapping, knocking, clunking, clicking, grinding, scrapping, crunching, grating, cracking, squeaking, rolling or even as "the sound of a rusty door hinge" [1].
